We love the graphic work on your web sites, is this something that can be included within our own site?
Standard graphics such as a header and rollover buttons will definitely be included, I consider these essential parts of any web site. However, graphics can take a long time to create depending on what they are so if something specific is required like a logo or a character design then this will need to be discussed beforehand.

Why do we need a website?
The benefits of a web site speak for themselves. A web site is accessible 24 hours a day to a global market. It is very cheap advertising, hosting for your site costs about £40 a year. Compare this to print media such as brochures and flyers and you’ll soon notice a big difference in costs. It is a great way to show off and when designed efficiently can be a real asset to your company or business.

We need a web site but don’t have any idea of what we want?
I can help make suggestions for what to include/not to include on your site. Before starting any project I normally suggest having a look online at existing web sites to gain some inspiration.

Can we view the web site whilst it is still in progress?
Yes. There will be a test site created for your project which will be accessible online. Once the web site is complete it will be transferred to it’s dedicated url address.

What content should we put on our website?
The content of your site is clearly very important. I normally work with clients to gather content; after all, you are more likely to know about your business/subject matter than I am. Every web site is different so it is difficult to gauge what is needed until we meet in person. I offer a photography service for any photos that may be required and I will do my up most to help in the gathering of other content.

Can we update the site ourselves after it has been completed?
Most web sites need regular updates once they are online. I can help with this in two ways. If you are confident enough to try it yourself I can train you to update your own site. If not, then I provide an ongoing content management service and can add updates as and when you require them. It is also possible to add a CMS (Content Management System) to your site, however this would need to be agreed at the start of the project. If a CMS were to be implemented to an existing web site then this would involve a complete redesign of that site.

Would it possible to have a Flash web site?
I can incorporate Flash elements as and when required. It is worth considering that not everybody has Flash enabled on their computers which may impact the number of people that can actually view your site.

What is a domain name?
A domain name is the text name corresponding to the numeric IP address of a computer on the Internet. A domain name must be unique. Internet users access your website using your domain name, so the domain name of this site would be http://retroedgewebdesign.co.uk.

What is hosting and where should we get it from?
Your web site or web pages are hosted, or stored, on a computer (a http server) that is permanently connected to the Internet. I can either arrange hosting for you (at a very reasonable cost compared with most web design companies) or you can arrange this yourself. We need photographs for our web site, can you help?
I offer a digital photography service to compliment your web site and can visit premises or completed work projects to acquire photos for use on the site. Please contact me for further information.

We would like our existing site to be changed/updated, can you help?
If you already have a web site but would like a new look or just need some content to be updated then I can help. If it’s a whole new look you require contact me for more information and I will provide further details and if required, a quote. I can also provide a CMS (Content Management System) if you would like to maintain control of your own site, if not then I also offer a further service where I retain control and update the site upon your request.

Will the search engines find our site?
In order for a search engine to know your site is on the Internet (and for someone searching on that search engine to find you) your site details must be ‘submitted’ to that engine. Otherwise your site will effectively remain "Ex-directory"! The web pages also need to be optimized so that they are search engine friendly. All this is done as part of the package.
